The single-vehicle crash on the Crescent City Connection that snarled traffic on Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of a New Orleans woman.
According to Trooper Kate Stegall, spokesperson for Louisiana State Police Troop B, Yvette Bowens, 74, died from the injuries she suffered in that crash. A second person, Spurgeon Lewis, 74, remains in the hospital with moderate injuries.
The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the westbound HOV lane.
According to investigators, Lewis was driving when his car ran off the road and hit a concrete barrier. Bowens, who was Lewis’s passenger, was taken to the hospital, where she later died. Lewis suffered moderate injuries. He remains in the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
