The Super Bowl halftime show was a huge opportunity lost by the NFL. I have a tough time understanding why the NFL would pick a halftime act that sensationalizes and romanticizes killing police and embracing a thug lifestyle amid the push to defund and reimagine the police. Last year, 73 officers were intentionally shot across the country, which is an all-time high.
We wonder why we find ourselves where we are today. We’re constantly telling people the police are bad and a danger to you, and that you should resist them. Just last week, 13 police were wounded by gunfire: nine officers shot in Arizona, two police officers shot in Maryland, and a trooper shot in New Mexico, and a SWAT officer was shot in Pennsylvania. This is absolutely crazy! The NFL may be the single most tone deaf organization in America.
A line in one of Snoop Dogg’s songs is “take your guns that you’re using to shoot each other and start shooting these b***h-ass mother-f**king police.” This is what we want to sensationalize on a halftime show at the Super Bowl?! This happened because Dr. Dre put up the seven million dollars to finance the halftime show. The NFL never really pays for the entertainment itself. They pay for the production of the show, and the entertainers perform for free because they can't get that much media at any point in their life at one time. What a waste of resources by the NFL!
Dr. Dre had to work in a little bit of his anti-cop rhetoric in the halftime show, as much as the NFL allegedly tried to editorialize the show. This relieved the NFL of spending seven million dollars, so it was easy for them to look the other way… “still not loving the police” is what Dr. Dre sang, which is understandable given his many confrontations with police for domestic assault. It kind of makes sense that he's probably not happy with the police, because they become empowered when the abused reach out to the police, who become the equalizing factor during the conflict, and Dre’s wealth and stature don’t mean anything.
Why the NFL would allow them to sensationalize and romanticize a thug life. Look at the history of the lyrics of their songs. The beat, I love it. The lyrics, not so much. The rap culture is bad and if anybody believes otherwise, you're sadly mistaken. This romanticization and sensationalization of this conduct falls far below every community’s moral compass and standard. Now, I know the NFL and these entertainers do this for the sake of the dollar. I get it, but it doesn't mean that everybody else has to be exposed to it. The NFL should not feel compelled to give one of the greatest entertainment platforms to perpetuate crap!
