“It absolutely makes no sense,” WWL host Newell Normand said Tuesday after playing a clip of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio discussing alleged benefits received by people residing illegally in the U.S.

“One of the things I see a lot in South Florida are people that have been in this country that maybe came from Cuba 45 years ago,” Rubio said in the clip. “They’ve worked here their entire lives. They retire. They get $800, $900, $1,000 a month from Social Security, and then they run into somebody who just got here from Cuba three months ago, is 29 years old, doesn’t work, and is given $1,500 a month in benefits by the government because they’re refugees.”

“I’ve said this all along,” Normand commented after playing the Rubio clip, “that there are example after example after example as to what we are doing, the sustenance that we’re providing for individuals that are entering this country illegally and some legally, and the benefits that we give them that we don't give to our own citizens.”

Normand also decried what he called the “open-ended amount of money” allegedly being handed over to those coming to the U.S. over the southern border seeking asylum.
