The Metairie Road St. Patrick's Day Parade is making changes this year to what can be thrown from its floats.
Out are potatoes, lemons, and limes, amid fears that the produce could be hurled hard enough to hurt someone.
"It's a safety issue," parade captain Dan Civello told WWL-TV.
Evidently, some people on the floats were winding up with these particular produce items as if they were fastballs.
"Fortunately, I don't think we've had anybody seriously injured yet," said Civello. "We want to stop that before anything like that happens."
Cabbages are still okay, as long as they are handed down from the float the way Zulu members hand off coconuts.
The decision to 86 potatoes and citrus fruits was a parade decision, and does not effect other Metairie parades such as the Irish-Italian parade.
The Metairie Road St. Patrick's parade is Saturday, March 12.
