Four alarm fire in Central City destroys three buildings says NOFD

New Orleans firefighters battled a massive four-alarm fire in Central City. NOFD reports the call came in just before 5:30 Wednesday morning at the intersection of Thalia and South Saratoga Streets.

The fire spread to three buildings and caused one building to collapse and another to partially collapse. One building was occupied with people inside but were able to escape. No reports of any injuries.

“At its peak, this fire extended to an abandoned two-story, multi-unit dwelling in the 2100 block of Thalia St. causing extensive damage,” said an NOFD report. “Embers from this fire were also blown onto the roof of an occupied two-story tenement building at 2124 Thalia St. setting the roof on fire and prompting the evacuation of all five residents.”

NOFD Chief Roman Nelson says the fire is contained and firefighters are combing through the debris to extinguish hot spots.
