It was a busy Sunday night and early Monday morning for the NOFD.
"Between the overnight hours of Sunday, June 4th and Monday, June 5, 2023, the New Orleans Fire Department respond(ed) to three working fire incidents," Firefighter Michael Williams said in a news release.
It started with a one alarm fire involving the garage of a single-family home located at 7440 Fieldston Rd.
"Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:56 p.m. and were able to quickly gain control of this incident, avoiding its extension to the home... A lightning strike during overnight thunderstorms is being attributed as the cause of the fire."
About three hours later the NOFD responded to a three-alarm fire in a two-story duplex at 311 Belleville Street in Algiers.
"Dispatched at 1:49 a.m., firefighters arrived on the scene of this incident at 1:55 a.m.," according to Williams. "The resident and two of her dogs escaped safely but unfortunately a cat is believed to have perished during the fire... this fire completely consumed this dwelling and threatened potential extension to another occupied dwelling to its immediate left and the Hubbell Public Library to the immediate right of the fire building."
The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.
"The last of these incidents was a two-alarm fire involving two occupied single-story doubles in the 3100 block of Marais Street."
That one was dispatched at 4:22am.
"Upon arrival firefighters were notified the residents of 3138/40 had escaped safely. A second alarm was requested at 4:33 a.m. as this fully involved incident had already begun to spread to another occupied duplex at 3142/44 Marais St. Both properties received extensive damage."
The cause of this fire is also currently under investigation.
