A New Orleans firefighter has died after crash on Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish.
According to an NOFD spokesperson, Dwayne Jackson, 41, died early Thursday morning from injuries he suffered involved in a two-vehicle crash in I-10 West near Prairieville. Jackson was a 14-year veteran of the NOFD.
Jackson's death is the third to hit the New Orleans Fire Department in as many weeks. Captain John Blackwell, a 27-year veteran of the department, died of cancer on February 24. He was 53. District Chief Michael Windsay died from a cardiac-related incident while on duty at Fifth District headquarters. Windsay, 51, had just celebrated his 30th anniversary as a New Orleans firefighter.
