Firefighters with the New Orleans Fire Department rescued a 20-year-old man trapped on the roof of a burning building Friday morning.
The fire happened about 6 am at a three-story duplex in the 2300 block of Short Street.
When fire crews arrived, they found the man on the roof calling for help.
Firefighters were able to rescue the man from the roof as flames began to reach the upper floors. The man was treated for smoke inhalation and then he was transported to the hospital by EMS.
According to an NOFD report, nine people lived in the complex, which, they say the fire reached the second and third floors but was contained to the original building.
All of the residents were accounted for. Besides the man rescued, and a firefighter treated for “chest pains”, no other injuries were reported.
The fire was under control about 7:30 am.
