A new report ranks a neighborhood in New Orleans one of the 10 most dangerous in the nation.
The analysis from website MoneyInc. listed Pines Village in New Orleans East as the fourth most dangerous neighborhood in the entire U.S. based on the outsized crime rates present in the area.
In fact, the crime rate in Pines Village is 591% higher than the national average.
The report shows that the neighborhood’s total crime rate is 9,900 per 100,000 people. Violent crime is 2,600 and property crime at 7,400.
The total population for the neighborhood is 4,140.
The report also points to the area’s extreme poverty as one of the reasons the crime rate is so high. The median household income in Pines Village is just $18,210, lower than the national median household income by nearly $60,000.
