A woman's screams alerted a couple of Good Samaritans and helped capture an attempted rape suspect Thursday morning, New Orleans Police say.
It happened shortly after 3:20 a.m. Police say the victim met the suspect on Canal Street and walked with him to the Lafitte Greenway. It was where N. Roman Street meets the greenway that police says the suspect tried to rape the woman.
"Two bystanders in the area heard her screams and came to her aid, holding the suspect down until police arrived," said police. "The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries."
The suspect, 41-year-old Stacy Johnson, was also treated for minor injuries, then booked into jail.
