The New Orleans Police Department announced they have arrested four individuals they believe may be connected to five carjackings across the city on Saturday.
Police reports show one carjacking happened on Adams St., two incidents on Audubon Street, one on Palmer Street, and one on State Street.
“Four subjects were arrested Saturday night on unrelated charges and remain in custody. Investigators are working to bring additional charges related to the Second District incidents in the coming days. These subjects may also be connected to carjacking incidents that occurred in other districts around the city on Saturday. At this time, NOPD is withholding the identity of these individuals until their involvement in the Second District incidents is confirmed,” said NOPD spokesperson Gary Scheets.
One victim told WWLTV how armed carjackers pointed guns at him and his family still inside the SUV as the crime was going down.
“And they stop in the street right in front of us. I look up and it’s two black guys in ski masks out of the car with guns in their hands on either side of us, pointing one gun at me and one at my wife. Our kids were in the back seat crying,” he said. “I got out the car and started screaming, ‘There’s kids! There’s kids! There’s kids!”
The carjackings did not stop Saturday. On Sunday, three more carjackings happened.
Police say on Sunday a man was carjacked by two armed suspects in the 1800 block of Spain Street.
And two carjackings happened on Downman Road less than 30 minutes apart says an NOPD report. Police are still searching for the suspects in those incidents.
