The victim of a carjacking shoots one of the would-be carjackers in the neck, sending him to the hospital according to New Orleans police.

The botched carjacking happened at about 6:58 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Louisa Street. Police say two suspects approached the 49-year-old man and demanded his vehicle.

As The Times-Picayune reports, the carjacking victim shot the 17-year-old suspect in the neck as the teen and another 17-year-old boy attempted to flee with the man’s property.

According to the news source, the man told police say when the carjackers demanded his car he flung his keys, pulled out his gun, took cover behind a car and fired one shot then ran into his house.

He said both teens then drove off in their own vehicle.

The wounded and unresponsive teen was taken to Tulane Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

Police say the other teen, an accomplice in the carjacking admitted to the botched crime.
