New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says her officers will be able to keep people safe even with the crowds of people coming into downtown for the Super Bowl combined with Louisiana's permitless concealed-carry law.

Kirkpatrick says their officers have been retraining on what to do when they spot concealed firearms in the crowd.

"It is absolutely illegal, has always been," said Kirkpatrick, "to go into any establishment while armed that serves alcohol."

She said officers have also been trained to look for other potential issues.

"If we see that, for instance, you're negligently carrying. What does that mean? You have a gun in your waistband and not in a holster? Probably negligently carrying," the chief said.

Chief Kirkpatrick said there will be 2,000 law officers in town, so there is no reason for anyone to think they need to pack heat

"Don't do it. There's no need for it, folks," the chief said. "Let us be your people to help you."
