The New Orleans Police Department, along with Louisiana State Police and the FBI, today updated the public on efforts to find and arrest violent criminals.
The multi-agency Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team (VCAIT) made eight felony arrests Wedesnday, including armed robbery, auto theft, and possession of a firearm by a felon, among others. They have also served nearly two dozen search warrants and seized 11 guns.
"This is another way local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are using collective tools and techniques to be more effective in the fight against violent crime," said NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson.
FBI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Bryan Vorndran said part of the VCAIT unit's mission is intelligence gathering that helps them identify trends in violent crime.
"As Superintendent Ferguson mentioned, the goal (of VCAIT) is to disrupt the persistent criminal activity and dismantle criminal networks," said Vorndran.
"Intelligence gathering and information sharing has been key to a successful relationship with our law enforcement partners," said Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Lamar Davis. "Our collective teamwork actually taps into all of our unique capabilities. We will continue to build upon that."
