NOPD interim chief: 'I feel like I've won already'

NOPD interim chief: 'I feel like I've won already'
New Orleans City Council

New Orleans Police Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork says she believes she will be named the department's next chief.

"I think as interim superintendent, I have proven that I am the person for the job," Woodfork told reporters at an NOPD recruiting event this morning. "I have community support. I have so much support from the men and women in the New Orleans Police Department, and I am doing the job.

"As far as being a candidate for the permanent superintendent, I'm the shoo-in," Woodfork continued. "Right now, I feel like I've won already."

Woodfork is one of three finalists for the job. The others are former Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, and former Henderson County, Nevada chief Thedrick Andres Sr.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell also said she plans to interview David Franklin, chief of staff of Albuquerque, New Mexico police. Franklin reportedly had high scores during the screening and interview process as a semi-finalist, but withdrew his name from consideration.
