NOPD investigates a murder in St. Roch and a shooting in 7th Ward

The NOPD is investigating a homicide and a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours on Friday.

The Homicide happened in the 3000 block of Deers Street in the St. Roch neighborhood.


“At around 1:44 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died,” said the NOPD in a report. The initial police report says two juveniles were handling a gun when one juvenile shot the other. Police have arrested the juvenile they say fired the gun but are still working to determine a motive.

Police are also investigating a shooting that occurred at or near the intersection of N. Claiborne Avenue and Kerlerc Street in the 7th Ward. Initial reports indicate there is one male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He has been transported to the hospital by EMS. Police reported the shooting at 12:23 a.m. this morning.

According to the New Orleans City Council Crime Dashboard there were 16 non-fatal shootings in 2021, a 45% increase over last year.
