Carjackings and car theft continue to plague the city of New Orleans. Now, the New Orleans Police Department says it's investigating the city's three latest carjacking attempts, one of which was successful.
All three of the incidents happened uptown within a couple of miles from each other.
The first took place just after 8 a.m. Monday on Soniat Street near Freret Street. According to the NOPD's Major Offense Log, three men approached an SUV that was driving down the road. Those men allegedly pulled a gun on the 22-year-old man driving the vehicle and demanded his wallet and keys. According to the log, the victim handed over the items, but the suspects ran away without taking the vehicle.
The second happened 20 minutes later on Harmony Street near Loyola Avenue, a little more than a mile from the first robbery. Police say a 40-year-old woman was trying to get our of her car when a man pulled a gun on her and demanded her keys. The victim handed the suspect the keys, and he sped away. Police say they later found the woman's car in Algiers.
The last took place around 7 p.m. Monday on Willow Street near Lowerline Street, just a few blocks from the campus of Tulane University. According to the log, two men got in the back seat of a 58-year-old woman's car as she was parking. The men pulled guns on the victim and demanded her keys. The victim gave away her keys and fled. The suspects tried to start the car, but they failed. Those suspect then got into a getaway car with two other people and sped away.
