New Orleans police say they've arrested 15 people after a monthlong series of criminal investigations in New Orleans East.
Those investigations led to the recovery of several cars stolen during carjackings in the city and to officers taking nearly a pound-and-a-half of fentanyl off the street.
According to NOPD spokesperson Reese Harper, officers executed six search warrants during those investigations. In the process, investigators recovered 11 guns, including three that had been reported stolen, one with an obliterated serial number, and another that had been converted into a fully automatic weapon. In addition officers found five stolen cars, including three that had been taken from their owners during carjackings.
Harper added that the investigations allowed officers to seize 1.42 pounds of fentanyl. According to Drug Enforcement Agency figures, that's enough fentanyl to kill around 322,000 people. Officers also seized five dozen Tapentadol pain pills, 14 Ecstasy pills, more than a pound-and-a-half of weed, and $805 in cash.
