The city of New Orleans has experienced yet another violent night--a night in which the city saw its latest homicide.

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating two shootings, one of which was deadly. They each happened within an hour of each other early Saturday morning at locations less than a mile away from each other.

The first happened around 12:40 a.m. in the Seventh Ward on St. Bernard Avenue near North Villere. According to the NOPD's major offense log, officers say someone approached the victim and shot him multiple times before leaving the scene. Police say the victim, a 31-year-old Black man, is in the hospital.

The other happened eight-tenths of a mile away in St. Roch. Police say just after 1:30 a.m. they were called to the intersection of Marigny Street and North Claiborne. According to the major offense log, a man was walking outside taking out his trash when the victim approached him. An argument then ensued. According to the log, the man taking out his garbage told police he felt threatened, leading him to shoot the victim, who later died at the scene. The deceased is described as a 38-year-old white man.

Police did not say if the two shootings are related.

So far in 2023, the city of New Orleans has experienced at least one shooting per day. At least six people have died as a result of those shootings.
