On Sunday, the New Orleans Police Department arrested Dwayne D. Smith in the homicide investigation that happened in the Lower Ninth Ward.
Police say the homicide happened in the 1000 block of Lamanche Street that left one person dead.
“At about 3:26 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male outside of a residence who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased at the scene,” said an NOPD report.
Responding officers detained a subject, later identified as Smith, at the scene for questioning. Through further investigation, detectives determined Smith to be the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder. Smith was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will officially identify the victim and cause of death once an autopsy is complete.
