A cop shot a man on Canal Street on Halloween night.
Police say the suspect, 54-year-old Emmanuel Harris, was walking on Canal near Galvez with a gun.
"An officer in the area observed Harris armed with a gun walking toward him. The officer also saw Harris pointing the weapon at several bystanders before entering the convenience store at that location," according to a news release.
Investigators say Harris pointed the gun at a woman in the gas station.
"Believing her life to be in immediate danger, officers discharged their weapon, striking the suspect."
Once he was down, the cops then tried to save Harris' life.
"Officers immediately rendered aid, and Harris was transported to University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition."
The news release says the shooting is under review.
"The Public Integrity Bureau’s Force Investigation Team is leading the investigation in accordance with department policy. The Independent Police Monitor and federal consent decree monitors have also been notified."
