Today, the NOPD SWAT team did a sweep of the old VA hospital which is the temporary home of the city’s Municipal Traffic Court.
Traffic court judges have been working out of the abandoned property while the traffic court building is renovated after it was damaged by Hurricane Ida.
The SWAT team went floor to search for any possible vagrants, squatters, and copper pipe thieves in the VA hospital.
The temporary location is closed because judges feared the condition of the old building is unsafe because of a water leak.
“It was going through an electrical conduit,” Judge Mark Shea told WWLTV. “We were afraid someone would be electrocuted, so we immediately closed… We called in some assistance because we didn’t know who was here.”
