Cops with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested one of their own.
"It was learned he was bringing illegal narcotics into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center," Sergeant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release.
She says investigators were working to determine how drugs were getting into the jail.
"STPSO detectives learned from multiple sources that Jason Allen Jr. ... of Slidell was selling illegal narcotics to inmates while he was employed as a correctional deputy in the facility."
Carboni says that detectives recovered marijuana, suboxone, cocaine, a firearm and drug paraphernalia from inside Allen’s vehicle.
"Allen was terminated and arrested Tuesday evening (September 27)," she announced. She said he was then to be booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
Allen faces the following charges:
Two counts of L.R.S. 40:966 Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I
One count of L.R.S. 40:967 Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II
One count of L.R.S. 40:468 Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III
One count of L.R.S. 40:1041 Drug Traffic Proceeds
One count of L.R.S. 14:95E Possession of Firearm During Commission of a Felony
One count of L.R.S. 40:1023 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
One count of L.R.S. 14:134 Malfeasance in Office
One count of L.R.S. 14:402 Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility
The jailer only worked in the facility for seven months.
“This individual abused his position as an employee in the correction center and used that position as a means to bring contraband into the facility,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We will not tolerate illegal drugs being brought into our facility, and if you are caught doing so, regardless of who you are, you will be arrested.”
