Detectives say a New Orleans man has been stealing thousands of dollars worth of curling irons, other styling tools and more on the Northshore.

"A man identified as Basil Martin Jr. (DOB 12/18/1999) of New Orleans... was caught on camera stealing more than $2,000 worth of high-end curling irons, styling tools and perfumes from a Covington-area retailer," St. Tammany Sheriff's Lieutenant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release.

Investigators say Martin stole $2,203.89 of merchandise on March 7 and returned on March 10 with an accomplice to steal another $1571.91 worth of items.

"STPSO detectives identified the two men as Martin and his partner, Keith Gutter (DOB 9/26/1998) of Chalmette. They then requested the help of the New Orleans Police Department, who located Martin at his New Orleans residence."

Carboni says Martin committed similar crimes in Hammond.

"He was then transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail where he was booked on warrants."

Later, cops brought him to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

"Gutter is still at large."
