After a series of burglaries, the sheriff in St. Tammany Parish is urging everyone to lock car doors.
“Vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “No matter how quick of a trip you may be making or how safe your neighborhood is, it is imperative to always lock your car doors and to never leave firearms or valuables in your vehicle.”
Authorities say more then ten unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the Bluffs neighborhood near Slidell.
"Five firearms were taken during the burglaries," according to a STPSO news release.
Detectives have arrested two Mississippi men.
They recovered two guns, but believe the suspects traded the other for illegal narcotics.
"All vehicles that were burglarized had been left unlocked, and detectives believe there may be more victims who have not made a report."
