It was a move to save a 10-room bed and breakfast back in the days after 9/11.

The Dive Inn, an uptown boutique hotel featuring a heated swimming pool was struggling when owner Wayne Porter was struck with an idea that would keep the doors open.

Go clothing optional.

It was a runaway success.

Nudists from Gulf Coast to the farthest reaches of Europe booked rooms for their stay in New Orleans.

The last 18-years were good to Porter.

Unfortunately came the Coronavirus, lockdowns, lost bookings, and no revenue.

In August Porter and wife sold The Dive Inn.

And the new owners promptly discontinued the clothing optional policy.

Bob Hannaford, who operates the Naughty N’Nawlins swingers’ convention lamented the loss to Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate: "What's happened to The Dive Inn and The Country Club (a one-time clothing optional bar in the Bywater) are two more examples that the funkiness of New Orleans is starting to wane."
