Oil companies battle for crude cargo access

The owner of three Louisiana casinos – including the Harrah’s in New Orleans – is making another big move on the Las Vegas Strip. VICI Properties has struck a deal with investment firm Blackstone to assume full ownership of Vegas’ MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay resorts. The deal is valued at 5-and-a-half-billion-dollars. Even before the agreement, Vici was the largest property owner on the Strip.

Valero, PBF, and Citgo are among the oil refiners jockeying to win access to coming cargoes of Venezuelan crude. All three companies were once regular buyers of oil from the South American nation. Last week, the Biden administration eased a ban on Venezuelan imports, authorizing Chevron to resume taking prized heavy crude to the United States.


On Wall Street, futures are lower as investors await the Labor Department’s November jobs report – due out this morning.
