Oil platform worker airlifted to New Orleans hospital

An oil platform worker is in the hospital after a Coast Guard crew airlifted him from the platform.

According to Coast Guard officials, the 28-year-old man was working on the BP Atlantis platform about 130 miles south of Port Fourchon when he suffered an eye injury. Personnel on the platform called Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders around 5:40 p.m. Friday to report the injury.


Coast Guard rescue crews landed a chopper on the platform, brought the man on board, and flew him to University Medical Center in New Orleans to be treated for his injury.

At last check, the worker’s condition was listed as stable.
