New Orleans Police should not face the same staffing shortages due to the city’s vaccine mandate.

City Communications Director Beau Tidwell recently clarified whether New Orleans would lose officers like other cities and states have when enacting vaccine mandates.

“Right now we’ve not seen a significant impact to NOPD staffing levels.”

Tidwell emphasized that officers have choices when it comes to compliance:

“Either the officer or city employee is able to provide proof of vaccination or the officer in question is continuing to get those tests.”

The aim is to ensure as many available officers are on the streets of New Orleans at all times.

Tidwell re-assured that there are options for officers to comply with the mandate:

“They were provided the option to go to a testing center of their choice, or they can bring a rapid test into their supervisor."

Cities like New York, Chicago or San Francisco have seen officers resign or get fired from law enforcement departments for not complying with vaccine mandates.
