UPDATE: Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Timothy David Ray tells WWL that the stabbing referenced in Monday's NOPD daily offense report was actually the stabbing that happened last week at the jail. He says no other incidents happened at the jail on Sunday.
ORIGINAL STORY: For at least the sixth time in the last six weeks, an inmate at the Orleans Parish Justice Center has been stabbed.
According to the New Orleans Police Department's major offense report, the latest stabbing happened around 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
The report says Orleans Parish deputies contacted the NOPD about a fight involving two inmates at the jail. One of the combatants stabbed the other. The victim suffered non-life-threatening wounds. The other inmate was arrested.
The sheriff's office has not released any details about the case.
This stabbing is the second to happen at the jail since Friday. Those incidents follow a string of four stabbings in eight days in late July and early August. Two people died in multiple violent incidents at the jail in June. That led to Sheriff Susan Hutson pulling deputies from courthouse duty to work at the jail, bringing proceedings in the city's courtrooms to a halt.
