President Trump’s newly instated tariffs have plenty of people scrambling for answers as to what industries might be impacted and how deeply. Consumers closer to home may feel the impacts simply by going to the grocery store.
Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain told WWL’s Tommy Tucker that financial pains will be felt across the board. “We’re going to see higher prices for a great many things, and this is really going to affect the export markets for American farmers,” Strain went on to say. He emphasizes that impacts will be felt crop by crop, depending on the severity of the tariffs on specific countries.
While Strain and others are hoping that the initial instability caused by the sweeping tariffs levels off and consumers can feel some relief, he does concede that short-term pains will be felt. “Initially, anything that causes instability is a challenge. We’re going to have to deal with it in real time, but short-term it causes some instability,” adds Strain.
