A teenaged offender who escaped from state custody is back in jail after his parents turned him in to state troopers.

According to officials at the Office of Juvenile Justice, the 17-year-old inmate escaped during a trip transport. However, authorities did not say when or where that escape happened.

OJJ officials say the teen’s parents brought him to State Police Troop B headquarters on Sunday morning to force him to surrender to authorities.

OJJ authorities say state troopers, Franklin police, St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies, Kenner police, and Jefferson Parish deputies assisted them in this case.
