Get ready to see a sea of scarlet in the streets this weekend... with thousand of women and men wearing red dresses.
The Red Dress Run is back with a new home base and even more music.
Organizers say the annual event will now start and finish in Armstrong Park moving from Crescent Park, and for the first time, runners will enjoy two live bands instead of one. Get treated to the sounds of Cowboy Mouth and Crescent Kings.
But don’t expect the festivities to be confined to just the park. Brook O’Bryant with the RDR says part of the fun is that red dresses will pop up all over the French Quarter and Marigny, even on people who never ran a step.
"I love seeing all the red, especially on Bourbon Street, always a good time."
That’s all by design. The Red Dress Run isn’t just about fun and costumes, it’s also a major fundraiser, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities each year.
"Last year we were able to give over one hundred thousand dollars to sixty-nine organizations across the city."
Organizers also picked August for a reason; to give New Orleans’ economy a jolt during one of the city’s slowest tourism months.
"We hope we're making an impact for the bars, restaurants, and hotels during this time."
So whether you’re running, walking, or just cheering in red, this weekend’s event is set to be a colorful celebration with a big community impact.
From red during the day to white at night... Saturday night is Dirtly Linen Night on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Participants are called on to wear their, now dirty, White Linen Night outfits from last weekend.
