A man is facing charges after police say he pretended to be a federal law enforcement officer in Kenner.

Authorities say the 45-year-old Mississippi man allegedly impersonated a police officer and activated police lights in his vehicle on the Airport Access Road.

Nola.com reports that William Gilchrist of Mississippi allegedly turned on blue and white flashing lights and sounded a siren behind an unmarked JPSO vehicle Wednesday night.

The real JPSO detective turned the tables and chased the pickup.

Initial reports indicated the pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100mph.

When he finally stopped, Gilchrist allegedly said he was a deputy and showed a fake U.S. Marshals Service ID card.

Gilchrist also allegedly had a license plate holder on his truck that said, "State Police Fugitive Task Force."

JPSO Jail Records show he was booking on several charges:

-FALSE PERSONATION ON AN OFFICER
-PRODUCING A FRAUDULENT ID
-IMPROPER LIGHTING

He is being held without bond and has at least one outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.  He is listed on the booking information as a "fugitive."

There was no initial indication as to why he was pretending to be a police officer, or if he had used his fake credentials to pull anyone else over.
