What issue facing Louisiana is most important to you?
The response to that question in a recent survey finds crime, healthcare and education are not the things that have residents most concerned.
A JMC Analytics poll reveals 26 percent of Louisianans believe the cost of homeowner and auto insurance is the biggest issue in the state.

While a special session of lawmakers will look at crime in the state soon, legislation addressing the state’s high insurance premiums will have to wait for the regular session that begins in the spring.
Pollster John Couvillon says residents will be paying attention to what lawmakers are going to do.
“Given just the severity of these rate hikes, its hard for it not to be on any kind of legislative agenda particularly since we have a new insurance commissioner.”
Homeowners in Louisiana pay on average about $2,000 every year for insurance.
Louisiana ranked second to Florida for the highest car insurance rates.
The poll of 650 likely voters indicates crime is the third top issue right behind education and healthcare.
Taxes and spending ranked fourth, inflation ranked fifth, and social issues like abortion ranked sixth.
A special session is also pending to redraw the state's congressional voting lines.
During the regular session, Couvillon says Governor Jeff Landry and the new legislature will have to solve issues that are important to residents across the state.
“Now grant it, some of the special session agenda that has to deal with items that have a legal mandated aspect to it, but ultimately the biggies like insurance and crime are what are most on voters minds right now.”
