After one popular French Quarter restaurant briefly shuttered over an out of control Entergy bill, another in the Warehouse District just announced it's closing permanently because of crime.
NOLA Caye's owner announced the restaurant will shutter its doors after '14 broken windows and numerous guests and staff members’ vehicles being vandalized.'
“We had to remove our sidewalk tables a year ago due to homeless intrusions,” said Bryan Zar, owner and operator of Nola Caye told New Orleans city business.com. “Sales down, costs up…crime up,"
They announced the closure on social media and got an outpouring of love and support from the New Orleans community. "If you can’t go to NOLA Caye, where the heck can you go?" one diner wrote on Instagram while another added, "Who I gotta fight for y'all to stay open?"
The owners reportedly spent $1 million to open NOLA Caye in 2019 as a Southern and Caribbean flavor blend, and the final meal there will be served on Christmas Eve. Many fans said they'll miss the oxtail and the bacon, the mimosas and the brunch menu.
