The New Orleans Police Department no longer has real-time access to Project NOLA's crime cameras after the non-profit organization pulled that access.
According to our partners at WWL-TV, Project NOLA director Brian LaGarde said he withdrew the NOPD's access to those cameras because the city declined to end an arrangement with the TV show Homicide Squad. LaGarde said that he did not want the city providing images from Project NOLA's cameras to "television production companies for commercial entertainment purposes."
This stance comes after the TV show aired images from inside a 2024 crime scene. Those images showed crime scene tape next to the deceased victim.
The NOPD's lack of access to those cameras hindered the response to Sunday morning's quadruple shooting on Bourbon Street that left a 33-year-old Chicago woman dead. While the NOPD published surveillance photos of persons of interest and a potential suspect taken from the Project NOLA cameras, the NOPD did not have real-time access to the video.
LaGarde says the NOPD may access the Project NOLA camera images by visiting other monitoring stations operated by other entities.
