Demonstrators call on New Orleans to pass cease-fire resolution
Chanting "Free Palestine, protesting is not a crime," demonstrators file out of the New Orleans City Council chamber after calling on the council to support a Gaza cease-fire resolution.

Today several anti-Israel protesters appeared before the New Orleans City Council, demanding the council pass a resolution calling for a cease fire in the Gaza strip.

The demonstrators also called on the council to condemn the clearing of a protest at Tulane University.

"I implore the leaders in this city to pave the way for justice and human rights," one demonstrator said.

"I'm surprised that there's been silence," said another. "There's been silence while on Wednesday at 4 a.m., 100 Louisiana state police show up and with full riot gear, assault weapons, attack students."

"All we are here is to ask for a city council resolution which 125 cities have signed on to, a cease-fire resolution," another protester said.

The speakers also criticized the council for an appropriation to buy bulletproof vests for the New Orleans Police Department, many of them saying it was the "militarization of police."

The protesters remained silent other than during the meeting's public comments sections, and when chanting "Free Palestine, protesting is not a crime" as they filed out of the chamber.
