The Louisiana Public Service Commission meets today for the first time since the Memorial Day weekend blackouts -- and they have questions.

When tens of thousands of Entergy and CLECO customers had their power shut off at the orders of the Midcontinent Independent Systems Operator over Memorial Day weekend, Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta says MISO officials told him it was because of a power plant failure.

Skrmetta describes his reaction when MISO couldn't tell him which one:

"The spears started getting washed in blood," he told WWL's Dave Cohen, "because that's not an acceptable answer to this commissioner."

Skrmetta says there were no power plant outages that day that MISO should not have been aware of days in advance.

"For them to say that was, basically I would call it 'misdirect the non-attentive commissioner,'" he said.

Skrmetta said the trouble is, whatever they learn, they don't have any authority to take action against MISO.
