Louisiana rapper Hurricane Chris has been acquitted of murder.

The 34-year-old Shreveport native, whose real name is Christopher Dooley, was put on trial in his hometown after he was accused of killing Danzeria Farris Jr., 32, at a local gas station.

Farris was shot multiple times during the deadly altercation in June 2020 and pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

Dooley was indicted by a Caddo Parish Grand Jury in October of that year, and his trial for second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things wrapped Tuesday, taking over a week to adjudicate. He was found not guilty on both charges.

“I wanna thank God, my attorneys at the Washington & Wells Law Firm, and my family for standing with me as my life was on the line,” Dooley told The Shade Room. “They wanted to give me life if I was found guilty. Now I can hug my son and think about raising him to be a man. This situation drained me and affected my health greatly. God, I give you all the glory. I got my life back, and words can’t explain how I feel. Thanks to everyone who wished me well.”

As a rapper, Dooley made a splash with his debut single “A Bay Bay” in 2007. The song reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its music video has racked up over 30 million views on YouTube.
