A federal judge has ordered convicted former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin to increase his monthly restitution payments from $500 to $1,200.
The amount is less than what the government was asking, but more than what Nagin had requested.
NOLA.com reports that at $1,200 a month, it would take Nagin five years to repay the $72,000 he owes to the IRS.
A federal jury convicted Nagin on public corruption charges in 2014. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, but released in 2020 because of the pandemic.
