A Washington State bagel shop owner has been identified as the man shot and killed last week in the Marigny.
According to New Orleans police, Jacob Carter was slain near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Kerlerec Street early Friday morning. Police have still not named any suspects in connection with the case.
Our partners at WWL-TV report that Carter, 32, was in New Orleans on vacation with his husband and business partner, Daniel Blagovich, when he was gunned down. Carter owned Howdy Bagels in Tacoma, Washington. In fact, the owner of New Orleans bagel company Flour Moon Bagels had met with Carter and Blagovich the day before the shooting happened.
In an Instagram post, the owners of Flour Moon Bagels paid tribute to Carter.
"Our hearts are completely shattered at the loss of our friend Jake, co-owner of Howdy Bagel in Tacoma," the post read. "This is an unimaginable loss to the baking and queer community. There is a big hole in so many hearts this week."
Carter's murder is the second-reported homicide in New Orleans in 2024.
