Restaurants opening for Thanksgiving helping non-cookers, local economy

We're a day away from Thanksgiving, and many of you are getting ready to prepare your holiday meals. Some of you, however, are staying out of the kitchen and will be eating out this Turkey Day, and that's good news for New Orleans restaurants.

"Thanksgiving is another one of those events where people who are locals may not be interested in cooking, so they can take advantage of some of our amazing restaurants," Kelly Schulz of New Orleans and Company said. "Going out to a really good restaurant is a tradition for many families."

Schulz says a long list of local restaurants--55 of them to be precise--will be open to serve families that prefer eating out or ordering in this Thanksgiving. For that, Schulz and many in the New Orleans metro area are thankful.

"We're grateful to all of the people who work on Thanksgiving Day to take care of our guests and our visitors and our locals who are out there enjoying the food," Schulz said.

Schulz says people who prefer letting someone else cook their food have something in common with tourists coming to town for the Bayou Classic.
They are helping spur the local economy.

"It's good timing with the Bayou Classic in town and then also leading right into Holidays New Orleans Style, where, of course, our food is the main component of Holidays New Orleans Style with the Réveillon Dinners," Schulz said.
