JPSO deputies detained a man Wednesday afternoon after he was reported walking along I-10 in Metairie carrying a firearm.
Officials say it was first reported around 12 p.m.
The incident backed up traffic for hours on I-10 headed towards New Orleans.
The man was taken into custody without incident near Clearview Parkway. The sheriff's office says he was carrying a rifle.
Police also found a vehicle parked nearby that belonged to subject and secured it for further investigation.
