The Superdome commission does not want to waste any time once a deal gets done between the New Orleans Saints and the state of Louisiana. They have essentially pre-signed the lease, and are just waiting for the final pieces to fall into place.
When it comes to the terms of Saints' lease on the Superdome, stadium commission chairman Robert Vossbein Jr. is ready to sign, and the members of the commission have voted to execute the agreement.
"That's why we want to do this now, is to take the legal steps that are necessary, so we can sign it when the deal is finally reached," said Vossbein at Wednesday's meeting of the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District, known informally as the Superdome commission.
What comes next is a vote to ratify the deal. All they need to happen is for the Saints and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry's office to come to an agreement on the Benson Tower lease, the main sticking point in getting the deal done.
Officials wants to get the deal done in time to get New Orleans back in the running to host the Super Bowl in 2031.
