“I’ll take a win any day, any day, the ‘W’ is all that matters!” A clearly happy Saints’ fan was grinning as he left Walk-ons in Metairie.
His team had gotten a hard fought, penalty heavy win over a surging Detroit Lions squad holding them off by the final score of 35-29.
Despite the win, the fan still offered his opinion on the team’s performance:
“The penalties made a difference, but there are penalties in every game,” he said. “The Defense is really difficult right now, they’re struggling big time. I’m not real sure what they’re going to do to fix that, but you can’t continue to give up 30-points a game and expect Drew and the offense to carry them the whole year. The Saints played just good enough to win.”
Other fans heaped praise on quarterback Drew Brees, who silenced critics with his continued mastery of putting the ball into the right hands down the field.
“Drew Brees’ arm looked a lot better,” One Fan remarked. “He was throwing the ball with some zip on it.”
Another fan liked Brees resilience to criticism: “I was just glad to see Drew Brees, he hung in there despite all the criticism and all the stuff with the team, and he just stuck in there and they got the ‘W.’
Still, another Fan just put it plainly: “Brees had us nervous in the fourth quarter, but he came through as usual.”
Fans were very analytical of the performance and the effort as they reflected on the win:
“Receivers looked like they were grabbing the ball, but they were better, we’ve always been a second half team.”
“I think we never left the track. The fans were overhyped,” Another Fan proffered. “You drop a game to the Packers, understandably, L.A. was a fluke. We got Mike Thomas out, Marshawn Lattimore, if we can do it without them, we can do it without anybody.”
But the issue of penalties, particularly two on Alex Anzalone for pass interference that put Detroit in very good field position twice, did come up.
This fan waxed about it: “If you go looking at what Emmanuel Sanders said the other day as a quote ‘I’ve never been with an organization that ever had so many penalties get called on and not get called’. That should tell you right there.”
Saints play the Chargers at the Superdome Monday.
