The Saints notched their fourth straight loss last night on a 31-6 effort. Fan reaction was noticeably downbeat.
The normally boisterous pub District seemed to have a pall over it last night as the Saints were losing. Reactions to the loss just couldn't find the right answer.
One longtime season ticket holder admitted, almost tearfully:
“I’ve never left a game and we left in the third quarter.”
Another lamented: “We have nothing to offer this city.”
Still another fan exclaimed: “We couldn’t get nothing going, no matter what we did, it didn’t work!”
For now, the long 2021 season plays on like a bad dream as fans offered their take on last night's fourth loss in a row.
“At this point we’re just waiting for next year,” One fan at the sports bar on Tchoupitoulas spoke over his shot and a beer.
Another fan summed it up like this: “I thought they came out flat and never inflated!”
Saints fans were landing hard on quarterback Trevor Simian. “Why can't Trevor lead?” Fans are putting season’s woes squarely on the shoulders of the third string quarterback:
“Number 15 drops back, drops back, and then he gets sacked,” one inebriated fan explained.
Others were calling for the team to play for a high draft pick so they can select a new team leader.
“They got to get somebody in there, so they need to focus on getting us a new quarterback.”
Finally the crowd seemed to settle on the issue most visible to causing their woes: Injuries.
“Oh God, our team, there’s like 14-people—11 on injured-reserve?”
And still the faithful believe the Dallas game is the turnaround:
“I think we’ll do better against Dallas, but right now none of our starters are in, so if we get some starters back I think we would’ve had a better chance of winning.”
Still the faithful Saints fans feel the sun never set on the season.
