Once again, New Orleans is under a hurricane warning. The city is making sand bags available, and areas outside the levees are being asked to evacuate.
New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Collin Arnold says the city has sandbags available.
"From 8 a.m., until about noon," said Arnold. "It's when the supplies run out."
Sand bags are available at the following four locations:
• Dryades YMCA, 2220 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
• Arthur Monday Center, 1111 Newton St.
• The intersection of Desire and Law streets
• St. Maria Goretti Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd.
Starting at 6 p.m., Arnold says residents outside the levees, in communities like Venetian Isles, Irish Bayou, and Lake Catherine should consider evacuation, as surge up to six feet is forecast.
"At 6 p.m., we'd ask those people to take into consideration their individual situations with their families and their friends, and if they want to they can voluntarily evacuate," Arnold said.
The city is also lifting parking restrictions at 6 p.m., so people can park on neutral grounds and sidewalks, as long as they don't block driveways or streetcar tracks.
