MAGA Republicans can step out of the comfort of their political tribe and face what America is saying about President Trump. In the first two years of his second term, President Trump has pushed too far on almost everything and last night was proof that America was rejecting the Trump direction of America.
For the MAGA die-hards, waking up in America today has to come with some insecurity about their view not being the prevailing view of this country. Even if on a subconscious level, MAGA Republicans are facing a rude awakening to the dominant opinion in America today.
The polls were right this time and accurately predicted just how disgusted America had become with President Trump. There were a lot of issues swirling around the midterms, but the “blue tsunami” wiped out over-the-top self-proclaimed patriotism espoused by so many MAGA Republicans. The writing on the wall started when Trump-supporting Republicans began to break with the president. On my talk show on WWL in New Orleans, I constantly heard from callers who voted for Trump that they were disgusted with his attitude and the direction in which he was leading America. The blatant hints of corruption surrounding Trump and his family had reached a tipping point. So many of the votes for Democrats were actually votes against Trump and Republicans who supported Trump.
The Democratic victories in Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, and a few other states were mindblowing and almost seemed impossible. But it happened.
The Democratic wins were so stunning and significant that even President Trump could not play the “rigged card.”
This historic midterm election proves that “hate” is a stronger motivating factor than “love.” I’m not saying that’s a good thing - but it’s definitely a thing.
The most loyal MAGA Republicans will continue to believe in everything involving their leader - but the difference now is that they can no longer act like they represent and define America. And I give a lot of credit to American voters who turned out to vote and express their opinions about the direction of this country.
When someone complains about the way things are in America and the response is, “Well, go somewhere else.” Last night proved what a stupid response that is to criticism of America. You don’t “go somewhere else” - you stay and with you vote you vote to change America.
Last night was a shocking moment for many MAGA Republicans because they could not believe that so many of their candidates were wiped out. The biggest mistake President Trump made during the campaign was to say “pretend my name is on the ballot.” No matter how much he tries to deny it - his name was on the ballot and he lost. Trump didn’t lose because he’s a Republican - he lost because of what he represented. Trump gave the impression that the presidency was about him and his family getting richer while average Americans struggled. He defied The Constitution on numerous occasions because The Constitution was not as big and important as his fragile ego, which cannot accept any form of criticism. Simply put - Trump is a bully and America said “enough!”
As for America post the “blue tsunami” - the Democrats will have to prove they are worthy of this moment. They will have to make changes that benefit the middle class and all Americans and that will not be an easy task. They should have the power to end the war with Iran and President Trump will soon learn that he cannot do whatever he wants to do. He will be held accountable.
This election will not completely change the values of right-wing Republicans, but this election should teach those individuals that this is a big country and no one group always gets their way.
It was suggested on my talk show that MAGA Republicans were disgusted and didn’t want to talk about the election or even vote. If that proved to be true - those Republicans contributed to the Democratic dominance. Yes - voting is important.
On the surface - it may look like America has fundamentally changed - but our lives will continue and the “blue tsunami” will not suddenly make America different. Maybe this is a moment when Republicans come to understand that the only way we get anything done is to compromise - and the same goes for the Democrats.
The bitter feelings will fade for some - not everyone - and we still have many challenges. What the drastic outcome of the Midterm Election of 2026 is that Americans can only be pushed too far before they rebel.
And last night was a modern-day revolution. Where we go from here depends on what Democrats do with their new position of power and will even the MAGA Republicans come to realize that their voice is not the only voice for America.
