Brutal fights, that are likely to be extremely bloody, will break out at the White House in June.
On Flag Day - June 14, 2026 - which is also President Trump’s 80th birthday, a major UFC event titled “UFC Freedom 250” will take place on the South Lawn of the White House at the invitation of the president.
President Trump has been at the center of many things that are unprecedented for a sitting president and the upcoming UFC event - which includes two championship bouts - is but another unprecedented action by this president.
Considering the savage nature of a UFC event - are UFC fights on the White House ground degrading to the pristine image of the White House - or are the UFC fights a way to shred the image of the White House and make it seem more a part of the lives of average Americans?
While I understand the opinion that a UFC event on the South Lawn of the White House does cheapen the image of the White House as a shining beacon on a hill - I also understand that the popularity of UFC fights could make more Americans bond with the White House and the president.
It’s almost as if the sport of boxing was too mild to satisfy generations that grew up with violent video games and graphic violence from Hollywood. Fighting with big padded gloves in boxing was violent - but not compared to UFC fights that feature almost bare knuckles and kicking. Years ago I was invited to watch UFC fighting in the man-cave of someone I knew and I decided to go. I found it very difficult to watch the vicious fighting that attracted a bloodthirsty audience. But recently I have found myself watching and enjoying UFC fighting - even the women fights - which was very hard to watch in the beginning. I see it all now more as a sport - like boxing. But UFC fights make boxing look more like a pillow fight at a Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority House!
The reason I think a major UFC event held at the White House is not degrading or sacrificing the historic image of the White House is because of the current popularity of the sport - especially among younger demographics.
UFC fights are a legitimate mainstream phenomenon that now is one of the major sports viewed in America. Ratings show that televised UFC events rank 4th behind the NFL, NBA, and MLB and actually beat the sport which was traditionally the 4th most popular sport - the NHL
It is estimated that the UFC has a fan base of 100 million and many fans are Gen Z. UFC events that are pay-per-view generate revenue between $300,000 and $2 million.
For many Americans, a UFC event is beneath their intellect or self-imposed level of sophistication - but the truth is UFC events attract a lot of Americans and hosting “UFC Freedom 250” at the White House might shred the stuffy image of the White House and make more Americans - especially younger Americans - feel more related to politics.
Maybe it’s good to make the White House seem less inaccessible and more in touch with the masses. I’m not saying that this one event is going to totally change the historic image of “The People’s House,” but it could make the White House - as the epicenter of the political world - more relatable to America. In November of 2014 during the pardoning of the turkeys at the White House, President Obama’s two daughters were criticized for dressing like teenagers at the event. Sasha was 13 at the time and Malia was 16. They were teenagers - but dressing like teenagers during a White House event was a point of politically-driven criticism from some Republicans - who thought the girls were disrespectful to the image of the White House. Let’s remember the teenage girls were attending the pardoning of the turkeys - not exactly a formal event.
So let the children of any president act and dress their age and let the White House host a UFC event and let’s be more relaxed and treat the White House more like “The People’s House.”
